Before I even read your description, I was going to comment on how you worked in the influence of anime with the eyes--but without following the set anime style everyone seems to use. That lends special interest to your picture. The shawl she wears is gorgeous...she doesn't seem confined in it, but wears it naturally and it enhances the shape of her face. The expression is interesting. She seems a bit fearful, and the large eyes accentuate this. She seems to knows she has people who will be jealous of her, that she has enemies. She seems almost to be about to look behind her to make sure nothing is coming up from behind. Sorry for rambling, but she intrigues me. She even reminds me a bit of one of my story characters.
I find myself thinking of the Symphony X song "The Lady of the Snow", based around a Japanese fairy tale. Was the Lady of the Snow one of your inspirations?
I like how it combines anime and realism to the point where you can't say if it's one or the other. And the little transition from grayscale to blue with the flowers. Very cool.

first off, a big THANK YOU for the detailed comment, it means a lot
hehe... yeah i thought i'd try a diff. approach w/ her, w/o the traditional anime settings
i'm very happy that you like it! i tried to convey a fearful yet hopeful look in her eyes, did it work?
sorry i haven't heard of the symphony you mentioned... maybe i should check it out in my spare time... it sounds interesting
thanks again for your wonderful comment, i really appreciate it!!

There must be some place here that only you and I could go
So I can show you how I dream away everyday
Try so hard to disregard
The rhythm of the rain that drops
And coincides with the beating of my heart
This is a beauitful picture ^_^ very impressive. (as always)
I think she might have some hope, but she's definitely battling inside, like she isn't really sure she should hope too much.
Symphony X is actually a prog-metal band. What they do is they work in classical arrangements into their music. While the sound can be a little odd at times, I really enjoy it. "Lady of the Snow" is one of their more unusual pieces because of the way they worked in the Eastern instruments...but it's really cool.
i'm glad you like it!! really i was getting a bit nervous w/ the style because it's so different from everything else i've done......

I think she could have some hope, but she seems to be kinda forcing it back, like she's afraid she'll get hurt if she builds up her hopes too much.
Symphony X is a prog-metal band, actually. What they do is they work classical arrangements into some of their songs, and while the results can be really quirky sometimes, I love their stuff. "Lady of the Snow" is an unusual piece because they incorporated Eastern musical traditions instead of their usual Western stuff, and that makes it really enjoyable.
you'll see what i mean...
thank you very much for the comment! kinda surprised that you like this
